Rooted in the research of Dr. Chris Germer and Dr. Kristin Neff, Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) combines mindfulness and self-compassion to foster emotional resilience. Mindfulness helps us face difficult emotions, while self-compassion brings kindness and understanding. Proven to enhance well-being and reduce anxiety, MSC principles are infused into all of Dr. Fikac’s trainings.

It is often said that all behavior is communication. But, why do we communicate the way that we do and what does the way we communicate mean about us? During this interactive and experiential training, participants will assess, learn about and explore their communication styles and gain an understanding of why they engage the way that they do with colleagues, students and in life. Participants will also gain an understanding of communication styles of those around them.

Oftentimes we begin the school year with mandated professional development related to compliance, strategic planning and curriculum reviews and planning. And, we don’t get to the heart of why we do what we do. Understanding our why, exploring our passions and planning for our own personal development are essential to the success of a school year. During this interactive and introspective session, participants will explore who they are and create a plan to be the best versions of who they hope to be in order to serve their students and school communities.
Based on Dr. Kristen Neff’s work, this interactive workshop will provide an opportunity for participants to learn the three elements of self-compassion, explore what it means to be mindful, and understand how empathy, shame and resistance play a role in our personal self-compassion journey. Participants will learn evidence-based tools for assessing how self-compassionate they are and experience exercises and practices to begin a personal journey.
The start of the school year is the perfect time to set goals and create a vision. During this interactive workshop, participants will create a wellness plan, a vision board and both personal and professional goals for the school year. As a follow up, a tool will be provided for ongoing encouragement for the school year (1-Minute Encouragers for the Educator). Utilizing research from Dr. Amit Sood, Dr. Brené Brown and Dr. Kristen Neff, this workshop will fill participants with nuggets of knowledge to make this school year intentional, successful, encouraging and fun while creating a positive school climate.
